Ian Macaulay
Guitar
I am a guitarist, composer, and producer originally from Woonsocket, RI. Over the past 15 years, I have made a name for myself in the Philadelphia r&b and jazz scene, performing and recording with John Legend, Estelle, and Eric Roberson, as well as jazz artists Clark Terry, Ray Vega and Joe Lovano. I have also been teaching guitar, bass, music theory, and jazz improvisation for over 20 years. I am well versed in a variety of styles, including jazz, rock/pop, classical, blues, and more and have taught students of all levels and ages. I graduated from the jazz studies program at William Paterson University, one of the most prestigious jazz programs in the country, with a degree in jazz performance.
Recently, I was featured on Brent White’s album Broken Toy, which also featured pianist Orrin Evans and bassist Luques Curtis, as well as on drummer Wayne Smith, Jr’s soon to be released debut album, for which I also served as mixing engineer. I am also a member of the band Maiden Seoul, who released their debut album, Cinemanic, in 2023. Another project, Breathing Ghosts, an ambient jazz duo project with Wayne Smith, Jr., was also released in 2024.
In between maintaining a busy touring schedule, I am also getting ready to release my first record as a leader, which will show off my diverse range of influences, from jazz, to R&B, and progressive rock.
